The Light House

A spiritual home for contemplative women bearing light in big and small ways

What if you had regular invitations to pause and connect to your life with a community of contemplative kindreds?

The Light House community was founded by Christianne Squires, a trained spiritual director and spiritual formation practitioner whose chief delight is helping you discern your invitations and put that discernment into action.

She is stewarding an invitation to receive 5,000 contemplative women in a deeply supportive experience of community over the next five years.

How we live

As a spiritual community, we are postured toward:

  • Celebrating the dignity and light in every person

  • Providing shelter for the soul to speak

  • Noticing, discerning, and responding to our invitations

  • Moving at the speed of soul

What might your belonging in the community look like?

Our community rhythms

There are many ways to participate as a member of the Light House. The following weekly rhythm grounds our life together as a community.

  • Monday Gratitudes: a weekly thread for naming recent gratitudes for things you’ve experienced, encountered, or noticed

  • Tuesday Practice: a weekly thread that invites you to share one of your spiritual practices from the past week

  • Wednesday Glow-Up: a weekly live gathering that nourishes your contemplative identity and fosters deeper relationships with the community

  • Thursday Reflection: a weekly video from the founder that shares a word of encouragement, behind-the-scenes happenings at the Light House, and announcements

  • Friday Prayers: a weekly thread to name your prayers—for the world, for people you know, and for yourself

Additional community offerings

You can find more ways to belong to the community through offerings like:

  • Weekly examen groups

  • Monthly contemplative gatherings

  • Quarterly retreat days

  • Mini-courses on discernment and your light

  • A creative “garden” of words

  • Other groups for shared interests and affinities

“Being part of the Light House has brought me into a community of like-minded and like-hearted women who live and move and work in a posture of listening, discernment, and contemplation. It is a place where I have found community, companionship, and other light bearing contemplatives. It is a house where I feel at home and welcome. If you desire to live a life of intention, with others who are like-hearted, this is a place where you can find a home.”

“How to describe the Light House? It is an amazing community where I feel heard, accepted and encouraged but it is also a place of learning and sharing, full of wise women eager to build you up and equip you with tools to grow. In a world that can often feel chaotic and competitive, it is a respite for the soul. A catalyst to launching your wildest (and most tender) dreams out into the world. I feel so honored to be a part and so grateful that it found its way into my life.”

“The Light House Community provides a space to dare myself to show up. The community emboldens me to show up in an authentic way, warts and all, and be acknowledged, witnessed, cherished. That is very precious and: I believe it's a catalyst for any kind of personal growth. I see it clearly in the friends from the examen group, and in others, too.”

“I have been a contemplative for all of my life. Permission to own it and live it fully never felt completely there. It was always compartmentalized. Through the Light House, I feel a shared synergy that undergirds me and for the first time in my 60 year lifespan I feel entirely like I am being true to who I really am. I feel like I am part of a global contemplative monastery. And it nurtures my being authentic in the world.”

“As an educator and campus minister, I often am helping others learn how to reflect. In that process, I can forget to take time to reflect myself. The Light House has given me a touchstone for reflection and examination so that I can continue to care for myself in these ways. I'm so glad that I accepted Christianne's invitation to join the Light House. You will be too!”

“One of the things that saved my life this year when all of our normal ways of connecting and interacting went out the window with quarantines and lockdowns was the online and social media communities I am a part of, one of which is the Light House. A contemplative community of and for women, there are ongoing opportunities to learn, collaborate, question, explore our calling to bear light in the world, wrestle with questions of faith, and grow together.”

“You know the feeling you have when you meet someone and there is an immediate connection, a sense that the two of you understand each other in meaningful ways, even without a long introduction or a lot of background? I have found the Light House to be filled with women who are exactly this kind of person. And deep insight, inner light, and generosity of spirit shine from each one of them. As the Light House leader and walking-alongside guide, Christianne Squires models these qualities as well as a spirit of contemplation-in-action that compels us each in our own way to be open and responsive to the inner nudges and ‘noticings’ we may experience in our spiritual lives. I am so very grateful to be a part of the Light House.”

“The Light House is a hospitable place and space, all welcome and warmth. Sometimes I arrive with gifts and grace to give, other times in dire and desperate need. Always, the doors swing wide as the whole of me is ushered right in. In this sweet home reside my kindred-souls. Here is where Elizabeth greets Mary and the life within them both leaps strong. These women and the practices we engage in together call forth and strengthen my light and life.”

“For me, the Light House is a place of safety, of deep belonging, a space where I can show my light and my life and see it reflected back to me by other kindred souls. The weekly examen group enables us all to have a place to be ‘seen’ and nurtured, to get to know others in the community, and to walk alongside them into their lives too. So much rich conversation comes from sharing thoughts, questions, and resources that facilitate us all to go deeper into our own contemplative practices. The Light House is definitely one of the highlights of my 2020 experience, and I would encourage anyone to consider if this is a soul space for you too.”

Knowing I have the Light House as a place of support as I follow my own path continues to be invaluable to me, and I’m excited to see what the future will bring for us all, as a community.”

I have enjoyed the intergenerational aspect of interacting with women of all ages. I adore them and consider them friends. I continue to learn more about myself and receive the support I need to be a light in this world.”

“If you’ve been looking for a place away from social media where your soul can find rest with other contemplative women, you will find it in the Light House. If you’ve been hoping and praying for a place where you can share your hopes and dreams and be encouraged by other contemplative women, you will find it in the Light House. We start each week by sharing our intentions, our special gifts at midweek ‘glow ups,’ and, at week’s end, our highs and lows. This, along with a weekly examen group, creates a rhythm, helping me to live more intentionally. The Light House has been such a blessing to me, and I encourage you to become a part of this utterly life changing community.”
